Blustery Skies: Let's tromp through the woods

I went out to try and capture the beautiful banks of clouds sweeping the sky on Saturday. "Blustery" came to mind, as they were blowing by fast and spittin' bits of rain. The whole sky looked like sculpture at one point, on my run to the store. By the time I got home, grabbed my camera and got back out, most of the lovely cloud banks had pretty much dispersed to even gray. But not all, and I've been wanting to look up this park ever since I saw it online anyway, so I found it.
First is the Google Street view of the entrance to Spring Creek Forest Preserve, right here in Garland, out by the George Bush(turnpike, toll-road. I stay away from it), on a day obviously quite different from my visit.

From here down is what I shot...

Wind blowing not only the clouds, but bending the weeds in the foreground. See? Blustery!

 Wheee! A jumping-off point!

Not secluded yet; there's the road, upper left.

 Stonehenge for short people?

At first I thought it might be an art installation...
Probably a presentation area for nature talks. Whatever, weirdest canopy I've ever seen.

 More blusteries...

And back to the woods...

 Aaaahhh!...seclusion, at last.

Y?

I shot this 'cause it reminded me of a previous find.

A root?! To the left, just out of frame, it goes into the ground and from the same spot, emerges into the air like a tree! (?!?)

A thin thicket? I love it when I'm surrounded by brush but can see out to the light coming down.

By now my batteries were starting to crap out or something, 'cause the color went wonky on this one, so I converted it to greyscale.

Next time I'll go 'round that bend.
Today I turned back(low batteries, cold, rain...) and shot a couple sillhouettes...

'Til then, Hydra stands guard. ;-)

nice trip through the woods man...interesting area you came upon...the large stone rectangles are interesting...was going to ask what the slab was too you picture in the woods...hmmm....

Cool!

Brian,

Thanks. That slab appears to be part of the detritus they used to shore up the slope just beyond. Doesn't show too well in that pic but there's a pretty sudden, pretty steep dropoff right past it, so I guess they piled the slab there to keep folks from wandering over the edge.

Megan,

Aha! My ploy worked! I got you off of FB and back in the blogosphere...for a minute anyway. ;-)

Thank you.

Princess,

Thank you! And you're quite welcome. Next time I'll wait for a sunny day. Maybe. ;-) I did find the gloom and mist pretty exhilarating...

The "root" (photo #25) is actually a wild gravevine.

Dave,

Thanks, but "gravevine"? Is that a typo of "grapevine?

Still, thanks. I reckon I can look it up. ;-)

Great shots - we need to leave these parts for, er - something more diverse - hoping next year, but with the economy?
Will miss these walks, which are similar to yours - and we find not too many appreciating it - if lucky, we may find 1 or 2 people, every now and then with us = Cheers!

PS: send something - need to update TWIAT soon-

CM,

Thanks.
Had enough Middle America, eh? Economy, yeah; I try not to think about it - where I'd rather be, I mean.
As for people I know who like to tromp in the woods, I'm down to just me.

I'm mulling over an idea for something to send.
