Theme Thursday = Statue

An older fellow moves to the U.S. from the 'old country,' and he hardly has a word of English. Luckily he has some friendly neighbor's, and they check on him now and then. One day this guy asks if he needs or wants anything, anything at all, and the old fellow says, "I wanna Halo Statue!" Neighbor thinks this sounds a bit odd, but it's a big city, he'll check around.

Alas, to no avail. He checks art galleries, gift shops, asks everybody he sees, "Have you ever heard of a Halo Statue, or know where I might find one?" No one can help.

Neighbor is crestfallen, disappointed with himself. The old guy really seemed to be counting on acquiring one of these 'Halo Statues,' and neighbor really took it into his heart to find it for him. Now he just hangs his head and shuffles on home, dreading the moment he delivers the bad news.

Then he starts thinking, "If only I knew what the thing is, I might have a better chance of finding it."

So then he begins to hot-foot it on home, feeling a little bit of renewed purpose. Goes and knocks on the Old Guy's door, who answers and says, "Deeda you fine eet?" Well, neighbor keeps trying to get a little more info, finally gets him to understand, "What do you do with it?"

Old man says,

"Goes ring-ring,

you pick-a up,"

puts his hand

to his head,

in the classic gesture,

"Then-a you say,

Halo! Statue?" "Steady Motion," telephone sculpture

Hello? Great joke and off to see more Watteville phones...I love it!

tut-tut said...

Ha! It's not often you get a joke, especially a well-told one.

You know, the old guy has a point. I've always thought that people picking up a phone look a lot like the Tin Woodman standing frozen in the forest, and that's a statuesque pose if I ever saw one!

Great joke, and a clever take on this week's theme.

All joking aside, Thanks 4 joining in and ya know what I say about your posts anyway.

Cheers!

I wouldn't mean it, but I'd break that phone.

Larry,
Thanks. I'm glad you came by.

Squirrel,
I appreciate that, and you're welcome. Glad you like.

subtorp77,
Welcome! Thanks. De Watteville is quite an artist, huh?

runmotman,
Thanks for saying so. I tried, even though it was an old one I heard as a child!

mouse (aka kimy),
Now that's a comment. Wish I could match it in my reply, but I'm drawing a blank_____ ;-)

Cinnamon,
Nice to meet you. I appreciate your comments.

reyjr,
Thanks for stopping by. I guess humor can be pretty universal, huh?

Skybridge Studios,
Statue? ;-) Welcome. Glad you like!

tut-tut,
I've never considered myself much of a joke teller. I really appreciate that!

Roy,
I hadn't thought of that, but you're right (maybe that's why it's scary when they do it in a moving car?).
Thanks very much for your comments.

Coffee Messiah,
My pleasure! This is fun. And thank you for the opportunity.

Kris,
Would that be because it looks so fragile?-- or, like me, you see phones (like cars) as a 'necessary evil?'
Thanks for coming by.

And thanks again to all the Theme Thursday bloggers! I hope to get around to seeing all your 'Statue' posts this evening, if not then asap.

Later.

Ha ha ha
Is it in Swenglish?
I did almost understand his wish :-D

Thanks for Your input in my guest-blogging post in Your community blog!

That made me want a good old phone again! *lol*

FANCY said...

I would call it Swinglish...Like the dialect from our south from Sweden...Where you can like that with talking with a Hot smashed potato in your truth - with out any RRRR - it would sound like people talking here in the west coust...*LOL*

A.Decker said...

Dakota Bear,
You're very welcome! I'm glad ir worked.;-)

tony,
I'm very glad you came by, but...huh?

simstone,
Thank you, and yes, I believe it is!

ANNA-LYS,
It could be Swenglish, if you think so, why not?!
Glad you got it.
And you're welcome for the participation. My pleasure!

Dot-Com,
I know what you mean. Those little new-fangled things are...just freaky. Not like a real phone at all! ;-)

FANCY,
Ha!Ha! That's wild! You and Anna both recognised 'Old Guy's' accent. Maybe he was from the southwest Swedish coast!
Your description slays me - "...talking with hot smashed potatoes in your mouth." LOL, indeed.

Ha!

A.Decker said...

Kurt, that's a pithy comment! I appreciate it, very much.
